Pardon my arrogance, but the WRONGNESS of these voting results is making me crazy.
Yes, there is Howard Stern; yes, there are teenyboppers; no, it's not rigged, riggers would do better; no, it's not just a singing competition it is also visual.

So that just leaves one thing, I think. The METHOD OF VOTING. What changes, if any, would improve the situation?

I think that we would all have been happier with the results for the last few weeks had we been able to vote NEGATIVE. Not who gets eliminated by the fewest votes (because they all get diluted), but who gets eliminated because he/she was directly voted off.

Positive voting is a nicer concept, but I think it backfires in numbers larger than 3.

Ideas out there to fix the mess?

Make the voting like "Dancing With The Stars".

Let Randy, Paula and Simon vote...they would account for 50 percent. The phone calls would account for the other 50 percent. Add the percentages based on the averages of the calls coming in + the weight of the judges votes and that is fair.

For example: Paula, Randy and Simon could give LaKisha Jones a 30 (10 points each) but if no one calls for her, she could end up in the bottom 3. Whereas Sanjaya could get a total of 3 points from the judges but it would have to take a helluva lot of calls to keep him around. In effect, the weight of the judges votes help "guarantee" that the worst singer would go home.

I've thought about the concept of negative voting, but it would turn the whole thing kind of mean I guess.

I think a one vote per phone line rule might help the whole situation. I'm not sure how that would be monitored, but the thing where you can call in multiple times means that people with lots of time on their hands get represented more in the votes. And that would be teenyboppers! Think about it. They have the time to sit there and dial over and over, and are probably the type that would care the most to be willing to put in multiple votes.

They might also consider allowing online voting in addition to the phone and text messaging options. But that probably has even more potential for abuse. So I don't really know the answer.

Well if you would vote for the least favorite then ya know people will be voting for the wrong person still. And say Sanjaya is not their favorite then they vote over and over to get other people kick off. I dont know what kinda solutions there could be but its hard anyway to get thru and it would be difficult to moniter the ages of the voters.

yeah ive always thought since after season two that we should vote for who we want to get eliminated instead of who is our favorite. if the voting process changed to this maybe then the show would be more "correct". although i highly doubt it will actually change because the way it is now creates a lot of drama which is perfect for idol's ratings. sad but true.

They need an age limit on the voting. Children under 16 should not be able to vote. That's why the S. man is still on. Wait until they find out he is not interested in females.

Too many people are anti-Idol so they are supporting the worse singer.
