The Supreme Court under Chief Justice Earl Warren favored the liberals as against his appointment for being presumed as a conservative by President Dwight Eisenhower. He overthrew the segregation of public schools and allowed the Mexican Americans to serve in juries. He institutionalized the Miranda Doctrine which provides that the rights of the accused must be explained to him before he can be interrogated.

He was a really significant Supreme Court Chief Justice. Probably the most well known case was Brown vs. Board of Education, which ended segregation at public schools. Also, a series of cases knows as the "one man, one vote" cases ruled that districts for the House of Representatives and for the legislative districts of both houses of state legislatures had to be roughly equal in population. (This was in response to concerns about the perceived imbalance in the voting system.)
