On November 25, 1947 (the day after the House of Representatives approved citations of contempt for the Hollywood Ten), Eric Johnston, President of the Motion Picture Association of America, issued a press release on behalf of the heads of the major studios that came to be referred to as the Waldorf Statement. This statement announced the firing of the Hollywood Ten and stated: "We will not knowingly employ a Communist or a member of any party or group which advocates the overthrow of the government of the United States"

Ahh, the golden years! If only Hollywood showed as much patriotism now-a-days...

We need to bring back the HUAC and other things. We need to keep leftwingers ostracized from our society as much as as possible.

If they ever attended a communist meeting, their career should be finished and spend their life in jal.

Same answer as on the other forum: I'd say it's same reason "conservative" has become a bad word to some. The fact is, the only people who get noticed by the media are the loudest and most obnoxious from both groups. In media geared to the right, we see liberals constantly trashing the President, the military, the US, religion, and Western civilization in general. We are not shown the value of liberal ideals nor all the good liberals have done. In media geared to the left, we see conservatives as greedy, oil loving, war mongers, who hate women/kids/minorities. We are never shown the value of conservative ideals nor all the good conservatives have done. With groups like Move On which are quite powerful and vocal, we are shown the ugly, fanatical side of liberalism and are led to believe that they represent all liberals. The sad fact is the far left and the far right have destroyed the meaning of "liberal" and "conservative" in the eyes of the world not only by smearing each other but by their own actions. This forces true liberals and conservatives to make the choice to side with their party no matter what because they are fearful of the other group. This is why Centrists are needed now more than ever. When Clinton was in office, the Right bemoaned the fall of American values and I didn't see any decline in my church attendance. With Bush, the Left wails about the loss of Liberty but I play with some very vocal liberal musicians and I haven't seen nor heard of any arrests in the daylight or the middle of the night for that matter. Both the Left and the Right need to take a deep breath, take a dose of reality, really listen to the other side, and stop arguing the party line if they know it's wrong. In an side note, I'd like to comment on the "Jesus was a liberal" statement. I see that sticker a lot and it couldn't be more wrong. Jesus was establishing a theocracy which means that everyone had better do some serious worship of God and how many liberals outside of the Christian Left agree with a theocracy?

One darkest moments in American history when Joe McCarthy used is position as US senator to claim he was the moral crusader of the US. Anyone who dared to confront him was labeled as communists or unAmerican.
