This Friday I have an appt. at the gynocologists. I am 15 and have been getting my period since I was 12. Within the past year my peirods have become very heavy and the cramps hurt really bad the first 3-4 days. It lasts 6 days and comes every 28-32 days. I skipped it in december and this month (march). What will the gynocologist do? Will it hurt? Will she put me on birth control? I am not sexually active but I heard that birth control can make your periods shorter, lighter, regular, and hurt less. Please help. Thanks

What your going through we all have gone through.Your body changes and your going to do alot more.sometimes you may even skip. Birth control helps regulate your period,as well as,yes makes it lighter. There is an aspirin named Aleve. It helps with all my menstrual cramping, or any kind of pain really. Takes 1 pill for 12 hours, really. hard to believe, but true.As far as taking the pill even though you are not sexually active it's a good thing to already have,You never know when that right guy might come along. we as women must keep our reputation for thinking ahead, no matter the circumstance. good luck to you.

Oh poor thing! I remember how nervous I was. It's really not that bad, and it doesn't really hurt, it's just uncomfortable. The good news is, it's over fast. She will do the same sort of exam you'll be having every year from now on, which is an internal and external exam that she will do manually and some scraping internally to make sure the cells are all normal. Try and be as relaxed as possible, it will make things easier.
Talk to her about birth control, it can really help with problems you're having with your period and isn't just about whether or not you're sexually active. Just make sure you've also discussed it with your mom or guardian.
Good luck hon, you'll do fine :)
Edit- Talk to your mom. It may be a little weird but it will be a lot less weird than the talk you'd have to have later when she found out on her own. She'll be pleased you trusted her.

The doctor will most likely come in and talk to you first because it is your first time. If you plan on discussing birth control (which will help your periods), this will be the time to bring it up.
After the initial discussion, she will then leave and ask you to disrobe below the waist. Once you're undressed, she will come back in and do a Pap test. I've heard of Pap tests hurting, but I've never had one that did. She will also do a pelvic exam and a breast exam. She should also show you how to do a breast self-exam as well.
After this, you'll most likely discuss birth control in more detail if you have brought it up. You don't have to be sexually active to enjoy the benefits of birth control.

Well, I can tell you it won't be fun. They'll probably do a pelvic exam - where they poke around in places where you don't want anyone poking around to check for abnormalities. It's embarrassing, and sometimes hurts a little, but it's not too bad and it only takes a couple of minutes. Whether or not they put you on birth control will depend on you, your parents, and the source of the problem with your periods. I had a similar problem to yours, and it turned out to be fibroids. Birth control didn't solve the problem entirely, but it made it much more bearable.
It's not an experience I would like to relive every day of my life, but it's not that bad. You'll be fine.
Good luck!

Yes they'll location your toes in stirrups. They do for every gynecological examination regardless of what number of you have had. Why on this planet have you ever waited goodbye to have one? The traditional age to have one is round 18. They will placed an software within and appear at your cervix and uterus. It can also be beautiful uncomfortable, but it surely does not relatively 'harm'. It's an extra feeling and tough to explain. They will traditionally do a pap smear while. That is once they use an extended cotton swab (kinda like a q-tip simplest longer and put off a few cells from the cervix for trying out for any abnormalities. Good good fortune!

Just ask your mom to go with you so the doctor can talk to her as well. She doesn't have to be in there with you while they do the exam (which isn't that bad by the way) but you can have her come in when the doctor tells you what he or she reccomends.
It's ok. It's very brave of you to be taking care of this at your age. I wasn't brave enough to see a gynocologist until I was 20. =)
ETA: You're not going to need a D&C (a scraping of the interior walls of the uterus) unless you're pregnant or have something inside the uterus that needs to come out. That would be extremely rare if you aren't sexually active. You'll be fine.

The doctor will do an internal exam, it does not hurt most people. She will take a look, feel around and probably take a cotton swab to collect cells for testing. She may draw blood to test for various things including anemia. As to whether she will put you on the pill or not, is something to be discussed. And yes, they are advertising a pill that can make your periods about 3 to 4 days and have less cramping, but they are not for everyone.

Relax. Many people are on BC because of heavy bleeding and terrible cramps. It is no big deal. It will probably hurt when they check you out. It's something that you can deal with though. They usually put this thing called a speculum in you and feel around for any abnormalities. Again, just relax. It will make your life easier being on BC.

Gyno visits are not fun and they can be uncomfortable physically and emotionally. However, good care is very important. In my own experience, I've been more comfortable with a woman dr than the men I've had in the past. Not sure what she will do as far as treatment goes but BCP's are probably an option.
Good luck.

Hey your first visit may seem daunting but don't worry so much it won't hurt but may be uncomfortable, just relax and it will be better. As for the period pain try a hotwater bottle and dab lavander oil at your temple area and the nape/ base of your neck this will help you chill out. You won't know till you go what he will prescibe but if your not active! ask what natural remedies are available or ask a natural healer for advice this will be less invasive to your body.
