Can anyone tell me a good outline to follow in writing a query? I have several book ideas. What is the first step? Where can I find the good information?

Bestselling proposals is a good book. There are also tons of sites with query letter information on the web.

A good query should intro the book: tell them what you're querying ( i.e. 90,000 word completed manuscript, the title, etc.) and where you're querying to (the publisher/editor might have several book lines. Think Harlequin. They have a ton. If you were querying there, you might specify for example the Harlequin Blaze line)

Then you will give a brief blurb about your book in one to two paragraphs. Most editors prefer one.

Then you will close with information about yourself, such as your related experience, any publications or contest wins and any organizations to which you belong.

Be sure to include contact information!!

Good luck!

If it's fiction, generally you write the book first. Non-fiction, you usually send a proposal. Get a copy of Writers Market - it is all explained in the front of the book. Pax - C.
