You simplify fractions like 15/20 and divide it by 5/5 which is 3/4 which can't be divided anymore evenly. 17/20 into a decimal, you have to multiply 17 by 5 and 20 by 5. which gives you 0.85

that fraction is already in simplest form, but 17/20 can be put into a decimal, by x 17 by 5, because 20 x 5 = 100, and decimals are out of a hundred so thats why you x 17 by 5.

(note: in the future buy a scientific calculator with fractions on it, then it does the work for you, also if you type a fraction in on most, it does the reducing for you. I suggest a texas insuments calculator, because they seem to work the best, and i think are easy to use)

say you had the fraction 25/40. 5 goes into both those numbers, so divide each by 5 and you get 5/8, which is simplest form. To put 17/20 in a decimal form, divide 17 into 20 and you get 0.85
Hope that helps!

ok do you know prime factors for example 24 will be written as
2x2x2x3
ok now suppose you wanna simplify 24/72 so you write
2x2x2x3 divided by 2x2x2x3x3
now cancel identical terms and you get 1/3
To convert to decimal you ahve to make the denominator 100 ie 17/20 is multiplied on top n bottom by 5 you get 85/100 or 0.85
IM me if you need a discussion :) hope that helps
