I have an audition for John Robert Powers tomarrow. I am looking to be a model/actress/singer and they said I should audition. I asked them if it cost money and they said only if they think I need classes. But if I am good enough, I dont have to pay for anything. Is this true? I heard its a scam but I dunno what to believe. If you know anything about JRP please answer.

Do not. I repeat. Do not do ANYTHING with John Robert Powers! It is probably the biggest scam in the modeling industry!
I guess it would be OK to audition but if he asks you for money or anything then don't do it! Because anything that asks YOU to pay is not legit!

The important thing to remember about JRP is that they do not make any guarantee that they will get you work. They are a school, not an agency. Expect to receive instruction and instruction only, not jobs or even job leads.

The good news is that though their classes can be expensive, attending a school of this kind can help you to boost your confidence and give you a taste of what you can expect from professional go-sees and auditions. Sometimes that alone is priceless. I went into those classes a scared little rabbit of a person and came out with the kind of grace, poise and confidence many people never achieve in a lifetime. The kids at school could not get over the change in me.

The only red flag I'd raise for you is the IMTA conventions, if they're still running those. They'll consider you for "free," as part of your program education, but if you are selected, you'll pay extra--a lot extra--to actually attend the convention. I think there are other, less expensive ways of getting your face out there, but if you're the trust fund baby type, then hey--go for it! You'll probably have a lot of fun and meet a lot of other people, at the very least.

So, in short, I wouldn't call JRP a scam. Just know what you can reasonably expect from them before you make a decision. Ask your interviewer lots of questions and take a day or two after the interview to think about whether or not this is something you truly want to invest in. Shop around and see if there are other classes and workshops you can take that may be less expensive and/or of better quality.

Good luck.

This is what I tell all new beginers in any field...DON"T PAY, unless you are paying for an actual service. From the information I can find out about John Robert Powers they are a training school for models and this is why you have to pay. You are paying for a SERVICE just like any training school. Do they offer to represent your daughter after or during her training peroid? Do your research completely before making any desision.

anyone who is making YOU pay is a scam. We got something in the mail once, asking if we wanted to go to this "talent scouting" thing, and at first my mom was like, sure! me and my sisters are really into acting. but then my mom was looking up stuff about the company, and she found all these horror stories online, so we canceled it. my mom looked into their claims about being agents for certain actors, turns out that was a scam too. don't put one cent into that buisness, there are other ways to get an acting career!

JRP will allow anyone to join who can pay. It is a scam they will tell you are good but you need classes asap and if you can't afford them they will offer you a small discount but will become very ugly if you are too poor to pay for their overpriced classes.

I had my son there, I was told that it didn't cost anything, but acutally it did. They get you there and tell you that they think that you are great, then out comes the $$ dollar sheet. You have to get you pictures taken, by them and that cost about $600-800, then if you have to take acting classes that cost more. The don't tell you that until they have gotten you all excited about getting the work. My son was 2 so he didn't have acting classes cuz he was too young, but we did get the pictures and basically that was it. They didn't give him any work. I hate that company!!

You should never ever EVER pay for representation or anything of the sort. EVER. If it's classes that you have to pay for, thats legal, as long as it's actually bettering your craft, and the teacher isn't just a fool.
