can i use a reinstallation cd from a dell desktop to reinstall windows on my hp desktop. help!!

Yup. Put in the disc and start your PC. It should boot from the disc and installing XP will be one of the options.

Yea put the cd in the drive. When its loading go into the boot priority select boot from cd rom. Delete the old partion. Format a new one either fat32 or ntfs. THen when its finished reinstall the drivers by putting the disks in. Update drivers if needed. And your ready to go.its really not that hard.

You can't do that that cd is scrpited to run on that dell if you get it in you will screw you computer because it will get half way done it will say you computer isn't a dell and kick it out (im not saying dell suck dell has been great to me for 6 years BUT THEIR WINDOWS ARE SCRPITED TO RUN ON A DELL YOU COMPUTER HAS A HARDWIRED THING THAT WILL TELL IF IT IS A DELL OR NOT)

Yes, that should work. You may have to re-activate WinXP though! If you changed the mobo, or CPU or repaired the mobo in any way, you may have to re-activate your WinXP license with Microsoft. You can do it by phone.

you could set up win from a distinctive CD you will not loose your records. the version out of your previous CD and the recent one is purely the registration type and installation key(if the two are WinXP abode) you could set up it, you will not loose your records.
