So yeah, for my test tomorrow that's what we have to write an essay on, analyzing a "nut job."

We were told he is young, between 15-30, hears things, killed his father, and is a slob who can't hold a girlfriend... Any ideas, advice, help? thanks.

Yeah, my teacher is a bit burned out. Maybe that's what happened as a result of his marriage. Sorry for the lack of detail, that's all I was given which is why I don't get how I'm supposed to write an essay about that on tomorrow's test...but I'll try..

Between 15-30. Did he resolve the situation with father before or after high school? Before or after military?. Prison? Did father have something to do with loss of girlfriend, or mother. Was the father murdered, a accidental killing, or self defense?. Was it done for money, hatred, in heat of passion.? The person in question is a slob, in how many ways, just in personal cleanliness, clothing, in manner, dress, or what. Is the lack of hygiene a reflection of disrespect for social norms or a symptom of self-loathing, or is he just too busy with more important things. Values would be the avenue to comprehend such an individual.

Write the essay as a case study and then offer the diagnoses after you have given the character a name and a history. Auditory hallucinations = schizophrenia to some degree. Killed his father = Intermittent Explosive Disorder or? Slob = Apathetic (depression, perhaps) Can't hold a girlfriend = maybe he's impotent... An essay on analyzing a nut job....yes, that's an unprofessional way of saying it (something he might say to close friends but not to a classroom). Here's some case history examples:

There's not much info here to go on. I guess you would have to determine whether or not he hears voices, or has some sort of hearing disorder (like ringing in the ears). Are the voices command voices, etc. Also, did he intentionally kill his father, or was it accidental (like backing over him with the car, hunting accident, etc.). Finally, I've known a lot of people that were slobs and couldn't hold girlfriends. It doesn't necessarily mean that they have a mental disorder. There is a lot of info missing here to make an appropriate diagnosis. I guess if you were to gather all that information, you might have a clearer picture of what you're working with.

Obviously he has an Oedipus complex and wants his mommy, not his girlfriend. He is a masochist and pictures his mommy telling him not to be a slob or he will get a spanking for being a naughty boy. Naturally, he endeavors to be an even bigger slob so he can get his just desserts.

Treatment and prognosis: 30 years in a mental institution with a steady dose of thorazine ought to straighten him right out.

ok... first he needs an MMPI... and you need to differentiate between a major depression with psychotic features, psychotic disorder, Manic phase of Bipolar...etc. Differential diagnosis is important.

But in that age range, the first suspicion is always a budding schizophrenic, probably the disorganized type.

If he hears things, he's probably a schizophrenic...
