well, same with human foods too really. some companies think it is not necessary to test their quality on their food, or the safest. i make sure to buy * at least for my pets* pet food that has been around long, there product is still amazing, never been recalled, made in their OWN factories, and are all tested for quality and safeness. and that narrows it down to about eagle pack, wellness, and innova. and then some minor ones that no ones heres about. if you look at the brand names of all the companies on there...they are not all perfect for dogs. name me one and i can find a fault in it. the only 3 i can honestly testify for have their issues, but they depend on the dog/cat.

Thanks for the head up. There was a similar case in South East Asia afew years back. The pet foods were canned in Thailand. Despite the fancy advertising, many pet foods on the market are detrimental to your pet’s health. Dogs and cats commonly suffer from cancers, kidney disease, liver problems, thyroid disorders and other problems starting in mid-life. Much of this is due to their poor quality diets. Pet food manufacturers often use poor quality ingredients that are not fit for human consumption, such as dying, dead, diseased, disabled animal, by-products like feets, heads, beaks, hides, hooves and moldy or contaminated grains. The food may then be preserved with BHA, BHT or ethoxyquine, which can cause cancer.

Because the average pet owner,
is too lazy to make the food at home.
Check the web...there are sites with
good recipes for making your own
pet food and pet products.
Doesn't this sound a little like
McDonald's getting blamed for
people being overweight.??

Do you believe it is intentional? I do not - look, most people don't want to hurt any living thing...there are some awful people in the world, thank God they are few and far between....and pet food companies certainly do not want to open themselves up to lawsuits from this stuff. Unfortunately bad things happen.

I resent the people being smart asses when answering this persons question. Obviously your pet didn't die.
Anyway from what I understand, MENU knew that the food was tainted long before the recall. Check out the latest report on CNN. (Smart asses, educate yourself before making rude comments.)
I chalk this very sad situation up as very bad and greedy decision making on "the man's" part. He/she probably never really gave a **** about what they where pumping out of their facilities or he/she grossly mismanaged their business and lost total control of best practices.
The sad thing is that pets are so innocent and cant tell us. The thought of me killing one of my pets by poisoning is unbearable.
My heart goes out to anyone who may be left with the thought that may have accidentally killed their pet and will never know or have closure.
So sad, I'm sure this will get worse before it gets better................

It's like the salmonella peanut butter, or the E. Coli spinach. Those companies weren't intentionally trying to kill/harm. If they were, don't you think someone would've noticed after all these years? It's bad for the companies, too. Contaminated food gives them bad publicity- bad business. So it's apparent that these companies aren't trying to kill Fido or Fluffy.

I imagine it's the supplier to the pet food compaines of the tainted meet that is to blame. My cat recently died from kidney failure - and I fed her one of the brands of canned cat food (supposedly the best and healthiest!). I have no way of ever knowing if it was a result of the food or not. I only know that I hope someone sues the supplier that is responsible. It's terrible what happened. :-(
