Floppies were replaced by CD-R's and USB's give us portability of programs. My USB I have some simple diagnostic programs to fix problems. I also, have Mozilla Firefox with my Favorites so when I at a friend's I can plug in and go to places without searching. I also keep a few Pic's and a Program that edit pics. There other stuff. I also got Opera as a backup for Firefox.
I will add this; I built a Computer about a Month ago now, and I still added a Floppy Drive, heck it was only $8 new! They can be used, what else I do with all those blank floppies laying around I got for free.

Hi,
First off, congrats on the interesting question. And second, to all the others that have already answered: You're all wrong. Reason: Have you heard of BIOS flashing? If you have, have you "ever" tried flashing it via your flash drive??? ;)

Anyways, honestly, although it was expected that the flash drive replaces the floppy a long time ago, it still isn't the case. Even the bigger companies still use it, especially for minor programs (e.g. BIOS utils). So, how long will it be until it's gone? Honestly, I don't know (and believe me, I've been following the tech industry for quite a while now). Other than that, you've got to admitt that no computer tower nowadays is build without alocating space for a floppy, hence, since they (the tower manufacturers and bigger computer brand names) still haven't decided the floppy is gone, you shouldn't assume it is.

Greetings,
TK

Well, you could say it already happened with the mp3 overtaking cd players. After all, all an mp3 is a USB mass storage device. However, for file transfers, yes and no. For saving things for much future use or backups, you will want to put it on a floppy, but if you want to transfer things over computers, that were USB flash rives come in.
Hoped I helped

Not in the future, no. Why? Because they already have. It was pushing it a bit to still be using floppies even 5 years ago.

Without sounding rude, they already have, no computers ship with floppy drives as standard and all computers have USB ports.

Plus with ever increasing capacities and falling costs, they have already replaced floppies as preferred storage media becoz of high capacity and less costs.

Who uses floppies these days? You can't even buy a system with a floppy drive anymore

Floppies are dead. Most computers dont even come with floppy drives anymore. My computer is 3 years old and it doesn;t have a floppy.

Certainly. But floppies have their own advantage over flash.

It's already happened. 1 gig flash drive for $9.99 vs 10 meg on 10 separate floppies for $9.99 (they still make those things?)
