What will happened if I connected STRAIGHT wiring for PC to PC or HUB to HUB? Will I ever get a connection or can I ping the other PC?

How about when I connected CROSS wiring for PC to HUB to another PC? Will I ever get a connection or can I ping the other PC?

Thanks so much.

I am so confused. I wired a crossover and connected a laptop to hub, but the connection was still there and I can even open network files.

If you use the wrong cable, you'll never get a connection, because the transmit lines of one device will be connected to the transmit lines of the other device, instead of to its receive lines. You use crossover cable to connect like terminals (PC to PC or hub to hub) and straight cable between PC and hub or router.

Remember one simple rule. A crossover cable is needed to connect to like devices. Some hubs have a button that you can press so you don't have to use a crossover cable to connect to another hub (only one hub needs the button pressed)

Crossover cables only work when plugging two of the same devices together, such as PC to PC or switch/hub to switch/hub.. Straight will work switch/hub to switch/hub only if one of the ports is an 'uplink' port.

Nothing will happen, I MEAN NOTHING! your Rx, is supoused to be receiving data fromthe Sx connection, since you want to connect Rx to Rx, and Sx to Sx, there would not be a connection between them...

straight cable is ok for pc - pc. cross cable is not ok for pc - pc.
