Going over the Falls in a barrel puts me in mind of all the "extreme" sports out there today, myself I'm rather cowardly and prefer non life threatening methods of entertainment, but there are those who for some reason or another need the adrenaline rush that activities like that provide. The possibility of publicity whether bad or good as well maybe?I think if you were to research further you might find that those who survived the trip over the Falls were more often than not charged with something like reckless endangerment of self or something similar. As with many things:"To each his own", I guess eh?!

I don't know but people have done it for quite a while. It could be on a dare or just because it is there. To me it would be suicide. I don't know how you would survive it unless you had a lot of special equipment.
