my school district has failed to present any of the students in my class with diplomas- at this time it has been over 9 months. (since june). because of their failure, I am unable to attend college. not only is it putting off my life, but since the deadline for scholarships has past, I will be unable to attend for a full year, since they are only available for first semester students. in addition, upon my 19th birthday, I cannot be claimed as a dependent by my dad, since after 19 I can only be claimed as such if I attend college. in summary, a lot of money and potential money is being lost over this. so I need to know how to go about suing the school district responsible- Santa Clara County Office Of Education (SCCOE). I don't have any experience in suing, so if anyone can give me something to go on, even phone number or reference would be great, thanks

I don't see why the diploma is a problem.

Did you finish and graduate?

If so, just get your transcripts sent to the colleges of your choice.

No one has ever asked to see the diploma -- they want to know the classes and grades.

Edit, after an email exchange: You're missing the point. Since not having the diploma hasn't harmed you, you have no case.

Answer: You can't.

Have your Father invite the parents for a meeting. Also invite the district superintendent. If anyone breathes the word "sue", I think he will get pretty interested in solving the problem. If he doesn't, see a lawyer about a class action suit.
That would mean the whole class sues together. Save all the papers and letters that prove your case.

You do not need the actual diploma to apply to or be accepted to any college, you only need an official transcript saying that you graduated.

I wish you wouldnt sue because they are probably in a world of hurt as it is.

Wow. I have never heard of anything like that.

Im sure any lawyer would jump on that.
