I think that it is really cool that there are men out there who are open minded enough to think outside of the box, break traditions and even out the playing field a little bit by doing this sort of thing.

Kudos to all the guys who actually thought of doing this or are actually doing this.

No I wouldn't. The woman provides the life, the continuation, the man provides the name.

Well, if my name were Hitler I might consider it... but on the other hand I doubt I would be getting much in the way of dates in the first place.

I read an article (I can't remember where) but it was talking about our roots to our past and how ingrained they were and it showed that marriages where the woman takes on the traditionally male rolls, have a much higher rate of failure.

We were all cavemen once, and the females looked for a mate that could provide and protect. We would like to think that we have evolved socially but there is a direct line between the guy sitting here on this sofa typing on his laptop and those beings that painted on the cave walls 60,000 years ago. What the article stated was that at some point the women began to resent their mates for not being man enough. Millions or years of evolution and thousands of years of tradition... really do we need to change it now?

I took my husbands name, but we did know a couple and the guy took his wifes name. His last name was Wiener and she REFUSED to be a Wiener...LMAO!!!! Honest to God true story! I think I would have made my husband take my name if he had a name like that, or at the very least, kept mine, but oh my, what about the kids?!?!?!

Hi! I'm a wife - but my husband did offer to do this when we were deciding what to do before we got married. I had no trouble with and wanted to take his name. However, he wanted to make sure we weren't going to hyphenate, and if we were going to have kids, he didn't want me to have my maiden name and the kid be different from one of us. Well, he is right - I used to teach, and kids are SO confused as to whom they belong. So my husband said if I had not taken his name, he would have taken mine, no problem.

My husband was all for taking my name. Mine is a very unique cool last name...his is very common. My father was a great man - hubby's bio-dad is not a good person.

We ended up using his last name, though.

It's not about domination or equal rights - it was about preference.
