The fan rarley turns on. The computer just heats up quickly until the computer gets hot around the power up button. After it gets too hot, it just shuts down and won't turn on for a while. The only time the fan turns on is during startup, when I put a disc into the drive, and very RARLEY when I am using it.

It sounds like the fan is spinning a little slow.

Clean the fan this is something that should be done at least once a month and when using laptop make sure that the fan can get air and circulate properly! If that isnt the problem then you need a new fan usually just a few screws to take it out and install a new one, inexpensive fix as well GL!

It sounds like there is a buildup of dust in the fan compartment. You can try blowing into the fans as hard as you can, Then look usually to the side where the air goes into the fans for "dust bunnies" clumps of dust. You can use a Q-Tip to dig out the dust and to clean the fans.
