Rebbew is way wrong, while most of the others have hit it on the head.

Tune-O-Matic was invented by Gibson to allow height and intonation settings without having to file the saddles or move the bridge. This setup usually also includes a stop tailpiece. Both of these items are mounted on threaded studs to raise or lower it to the proper position.

Its not a very important feature. I think it just means that the bridge can be adjusted instead of fixed, like on an acoustic guitar. I don't think it does anything automatic for the tuning or anything. Some guitars have fine tuners on the bridge, but those are usually for locking tremolo heavy metal type guitars.

It is the style of bridge found on most Gibson guitars, for example, all Les Pauls. A lot of brands and styles use them. Look at a pic on the internet if you don't know what I mean.

This is a type of bridge where you can adjust the action of each string individually and also the intonation by turning these screws, you can also raise or lower the entire bridge height.
