I've been on birth control for many years and this is the first time I've ever spotted this long. I missed a pill the beginning of February but since then have been like clockwork taking the pill the same time every day. I hardly believe missing one pill will make me spot this long. I take the pill 3 months straight, then have a period (cuz of migraines). I've also had cramping and sometimes it's bright red and other times it's dark brown. I'm not sure what's going on. I have to see my doc for my yearly exam next month. Should I just wait until then?

Yes its damn irritating isn't it!!!!! I missed a pill a few months back and I am still spotting. This is normal for me when I miss one, its your hormone levels getting out of wack and your body is a bit confused.
But it could be something more serious so I'd get an appointment now.
Good luck!

Although I'm not on the pill, my sister n law had been on the pill for years and then all of a sudden she was spotting for weeks, she had to switch to a lower dose of a pill.....I do know though that dark blood means it's old blood...so maybe when it's dark it's just old blood cause you don't have a regular period.....but in any matter that you're not sure .....go see the doctor.....if you feel you can't wait til next month than i'd just call the office and tell them what's going on and if you should wait or can they get you in sooner......good luck

I'd say you can probably wait without worrying, although it's definitely something you ought to mention to your doc when you go to your appt. But as long as you aren't bleeding heavily, it's not really likely to be anything hugely urgent.

Have you started any new meds lately? Antibiotics are often the culprit in situations like this, but a lot of medications can affect the pill's absorption and cause spotting. If you've had any tummy bugs lately, they can be problematic too... a few months ago I had a stomach flu and had actual period-type bleeding for a full two weeks.

It sounds like your pill is not the right one for you. It sounds like you need a stronger pill. The variation in period colour is normal. Mention all this to your doc next month.

You can outgrow a pill.

Get on a different pill. I think it needs to be higher progesterone, but see a person with a medical degree for further advice.
