I loved the transformers cartoon and i talked to another transformer guy who explained why they changed it so much. bumblebee cannot be a vw beetle and the porche cannot be a porche because of politicial correctness. they are german cars and the movie makers did not want to offend any people from WWII. granted the cartoon was after the war, but that is "supposed" to be the biggest reason. if general motors is a major sponsor that could be another big reason, there may be other reasons for the changes, but from what i've seen there is too little information to support any conspirecy thoeries just yet. this is the most attention the transformers have had in twenty years, it could be worse they could make a thundercats movie, why make judgements on the movie before we've seen it? how many movies have they made that stay true to the original show? lets wait to watch the movie before we trash it. it might surprise us all.

I don't believe the German excuse at all. If that were true, movie makers wouldn't use German cars at all. I think it the producers & creators who wanted to put their own touches on the film and I think it was a poor decision.

I'm a huge Transformers fan, but all about old school Generation 1 Transformers...nothing beyond those. They made a good decision using Gen. 1 characters but if you ask me, you can't screw around with something that worked back then. If you're going to do it like the original, do it right. Bumblebee's a VW bug, Optimus Prime is not a long nose rig with flames, and Megatron is a .45 cal handgun and doesn't look like some freakish demon.

Being the fan I am, I will watch it, but will wait til it comes out on DVD.

Its not about offending WWII foes, seeing as BumbleBee and Jazz are good guys. Most likely VW/Porche (I believe they are sibling companies wanted too much for the rights to use their models) as to Megatron being a Prototype Jet as opposed to a gun is common sense it removes the 'Size modulation' issue as it is now live action and must obey some level of physics.

Prime's new look probably reflects the fact that you rarely if ever see the old-school model of Semi any more, seriously, look at the rigs rolling down the highway, when's the last time you saw a flat-nosed/cab-over style truck.

If the film is set in 2006/2007 or even the future it only makes sense that the vehicle forms of the majority of TF's actually matches what you would see on the street, 1980's models won't cut it, heck from a production stand point if they use real cars and use CGI for the robot forms only it'd be hell finding enough versions of the 80's models to meet production needs(Look at Dukes of Hazzard, how many '69 Chargers did they kill and how much of the budget went to that instead of a decent script)

That isnt the reason why. Bumblebee can't be a Beetle because Volkswagen refused to allow the movie makers to use their car in a movie promoting violence. Porche (Jazz) probably for the same reasons.

Don't be spewing out things like "didn't want to offend anyone from WWII" .....That doesn't even make any sense!!!

From what i have read about the new film and what little i have seen in trailers and screenshots, the new film looks and sounds like its gonna be pretty good... yes, it does seem like its coming out a little late, i think that it should have a came out a couple of years ago, but the longer they wait, the better its going to be as far as graphics goes... i cant really find anything about it to diss

I am excited about the movie. I think the key is to watch it like you haven't seen the cartoon so you won't compare it. I agree that it won't be the same. For all of us who grew up watching it, it won't be the same.

It's just twenty years too late, man.
I would have loved it even TWO years ago, but it's just gone too far behind most of us.
