I know what you mean, they are so use to taking advantage of you that they will try you to see if you are really serious, I mean actions speak louder then words, so they will think, that yo are kidding first, so you will have to put your words into action and keep saying no and stand your ground. They have gained so much ground, they don't want to loose it, so they will try to keep it, do you feel me. They will test you. After a couple of tests, they will finally get the hink. I am dealing with a friend who refuses to get a better vehicle, she likes the one that keeps braking down because everytime it brakes down, she knows she can count on me for a ride (I am her taxi service) but I am done! So now I am telling her to get a new used vehicle or take a taxi or walk wheneve that junky vehicle of her's brakes downand I know she will freak because I have been there to walk all over.

You can't change people's minds as easily as you can change your own. People only take you for granted when they don't feel like they need you or when they feel like they can get you easily enough. If you don't want to be taken for granted, then instead of trying to change other's minds, take up something that many find need or useful (possibly something to improve the life of others rather than the life of oneself).

hey look its okay, this is what i've taken to doing. i help people and continue to do when they help me back. i leave and ignore those who are not deserving of my trust and friendship. make people want to be by your side and don't be desperate for them. don't let anyone get on your nerves, its useless. pretend their not there and they'll give up eventually. it'll take some time but it'll work. what else that works is when these ppl bother you have a friend around it helps when you can make fun of them later =)

People will always get on your nerves. Love them anyway and find a way to relieve stress in your life.

see my answer to your other similar question. but in this case, try to be more selective about who you are nice too. everyone will not appreciate it (c'est la vie). when they ask you for something and you know they are taking advantage of you, man up to them (i know its hard but you got too or it gets worse). you will not be condemned to hell if you don't help everyone. even the Bible recognizes snakes.
