my fiance' builds computers and specializes in software, networking, and all kinds of other stuff that i know nothing about......he is technically still in school and makes about 45.00 an hour for fixing and/or building computers for people.....when he completes school he will make about 75.00-90.00 an hour.......but you need to go to school

A computer technician is a guy or gal that people cry to when the install too many crappy programs off of the internet on their underpowered old PC. Often, they will be yelled at for instructing old farty users how to click on stuff.
You have to be good at hanging in a career where the salaries haven't budged in 8-9 years.
It pays as little as employers can get away with
You will never stop having to learn mountains of new crap as you deal with people you'd rather not know.

A computer technician might have to:
repair/replace hardware
repair/reinstall software
troubleshoot error codes
update systems
reset passwords/generally work on user accounts
There's a lot more...but if it can be done on a PC, expect to know how to fix it.
Yes, you should know how every OS works, inside and out.
Salaries depend on knowledge. I make some pretty good cash.
