I just bought a Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000 (USB), & my computer won't recognize it. I've tried plugging it in while it's on & while it's off. Nothing. One time it was shifting back & forth between recognizing it & not. Then in the end it still wouldn't work. I'm wondering if I could be having a hardware conflict somewhere, though I don't know between what components. OR, is there some trick I need to know to get it to regonize it. It's a Plug-N-Play device, no software. My current keyboard is the Microsoft Natural Multimedia Keyboard 1.0A (PS2). Any suggestions?

If you have more than 1 usb port, try to plug your keyboard on all of them. If your mouse is ok, go to 'mouse and keyboard' in control panel. Usually if you plugged in any devices into usb ports, it'll be automatically detected and show something like 'new hardware detected'. If not then it's the usb ports problem.

Use another keyboard, and go to your device manager and uninstall the keyboard, then restart the computer. That should reinstall the drivers for the keyboard. If there is a hardware conflict there will be a yellow triangle icon with a "!" inside it next to the input devices in the device manager. Tic the icon and it should tell you where the problem is at. After the drivers reload, shut the computer off and then plug in the new keyboard, then turn it back on and see if you get the balloon message "Found New Hardware". That means that the drivers for the new keyboard have loaded.

A keyboard should either come with a Floppy Disk or CD-Installer. These Installers will help the computer recognize the keyboard and utilize the extra keys such as hot keys, etc. The reason why your keyboard is not recognized is because you did not install the software from either the Floppy Disk or CD-Installer.

You may have a lose usb port.I had a computer that did that.the little chime that sounds when you plug and unplug devices kept going off.I opened the computer and pushed on the wires that hook to the usb from the inside.I did not have any problems after that..hope this helps..

you can try the IntelliType software from microsoft
http://www.filehippo.com/download_intellitype/
or from microsoft
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/DownloadResult.aspx?prod=pk_cck2000&os=XP_32&lang=en&driverVersion=IntelliType%20Pro%206.1%2032-bit%20for%20Windows%20XP
this is the only software for that product, assuming you are using xp sp2

i hope this helps to recognize the keyboard
