Actually, you might consider your single computer at home a standalone computer. Yet if you are asking questions on Y/A, you are obviously connected to the largest network ever concieved. However, "Standalone" implies "no nearby neighbors", so I guess you could consider the home PC a standalone. In a corporate environment, either through a workgroup, domain or other logical grouping of machines is the word "network" strongly enforced. The Internet, in this context, is refered to as the "cloud" (a sort of fuzzy unknown, but we know its there and we can attach to it). In the back of the office, there still may be a machine that's refered to as a "standalone" - simply because it is not a part of the internal network, but it may still have internet access.
