I found this porous stone thing at Wal-Mart called Pure Clean Bathroom Cleaning Block. It is this block about the size of a thick bar of soap. It has a yellow sponge on one side. It basically scrapes the ring off. When we moved into our house the toilets had rings on them and for 5 years I tried everything from CLR, to Coke, to everything else I could think of. I turned the water to the toilet off and flushed it to get the water line lower than the ring and then just scrubbed it off. It also worked for some hard water stains in the sink. I bought 2, one to use in the toilets, and one to use everywhere else.
The website on the package is www.goearthstone.com if you have trouble finding them.

I use regular toilet cleaner and that gets everything out alright. I'm not sure what type of cleaner you're asking about though. A useful tip for next time...use the white bleach toilet tabs that you put in the tank. They really help keep the toilet clean between scrubbings. Although, don't do this if you have pets or children that will get into the water. Also, DO NOT use regular toilet cleaner with the tab. Bleach water made with the tab plus toilet cleaner equals really scarry toxic fumes. This is from experience!! I forgot that I'd put in the tab and went to clean the toilet with squeeze cleaner...AHH! To get a good scrub with the tab, use spray bleach. Before using other products, look carefully at product bottles to see if they say do not mix with bleach. Just a tip :) I hope this helps.

First clean it and flush it.

Then scrub it with a pumic stone and clean it again with lime a way and baking soda.

Clean regularly with a de-ionizing cleaner like baking soda mixed with another cleaner and the ring won't return. Also, while it may save water, getting into the habit of not flushing just because urine is in it (many people have adopted this habit) will stain the bowl.

I have found that if you put a Clorox's blue tablet that advertises to keep toilet clean. Directions say to put it in the tank. When I need to clean really harsh stains ... I put one in the bowl let soak for 10 minutes ... run you brush around the toilet. Sparkling!!! I hope this helps.

Ace Hardware has a product called a Pumie toilet ring remover that works well. Be warned though it is expensive. Good Luck.

Lime-a-way (from Walgreens) and a good toilet brush. Clean your bowl on a regular basis without letting it go too long and you won't have this problem. You could also try bleach, straight up...but you must have a good brush!

Try the product called iron-out.
Its used primarily for water softeners but can be used for laundry, toilet bowels, etc to remove stains.

Good luck

Use a pumice stone or a grill screen. Neither will scratch.
