I have read accounts of the effects of tasers (high voltage stun guns that shoot needles into a person's body). When the police use a taser first they shoot the person and then adjust the electrical shock to control the person. There is an account of a female bartender that was shot in the breast and had to have it removed.

Sure, the police encounter dangerous people but they have guns to defend lives by shooting and they have clubs to beat for lessor dangers and now if a person threatens a policeman or does not comply the person can be tasered. Keep in mind there is one other alternative which is not to cause harm to the other person by .... negotiating or interpersonal communication. Tasering seems like treating people like animals and is dangerous to long term health.

Tasering is not good, but better then beating with a club or shooting with a gun and they will admit that is what they will do, this is what they want to do to try not to have to do that. I don't know? I have mixed feelings on this, perhaps we need to start thinking in terms of police powers and what is best for the public and what the public actually wants? I am not sure.

Yes, tasers should be a tool that police can use in certain situations. If you are not responding to interpersonal communication or negotiation, a taser is a non-lethal way of ending the situation. Police have ALWAYS used interpersonal communication first. Tasers give police another option when their life or the lives of others are put in jeopardy besides the use of lethal force (gunfire). What is more dangerous to your long term health, getting shocked or getting shot? Take your pick.

I know it seems scary that police could be walking around with tasers, but when you've been robbed, attacked or been in a position where you can actually see the full force one person could unleash on another, that is also very scary.

And don't you think that police could use tasers much more effectively than batons or guns.

The harm could be significantly less, than being beaten by a baton or being shot with a gun.

I know there have been recent ordeals in Victoria where, police have shot to kill, and there has been public outrage about the police's use of force, i'm just assuming that tasers would be the better option.

My personal view is A better alternative would be a bean-bag gun.

I believe police should be allowed to use tazers, however, it should be restricted to being used in the same situation that a gun would be used...if the situation would not warrant an officer to pull their gun and use it in the same situation, then they shouldn't use a tazer. Once a person is tazered, they should be cuffed immedately and not be tazered again to "subdue them".

There have been cases where, one just a few months ago, where a prision in custody died after police used a tazer on him. It was not because they used it one time, but several times (possibly as many as six) and it caused him to go into cardiac arrest. The man was already in police custody and the police used the tazer to "subdue" him and his family has filed a suit for wrongful death.

i have willingly been shot with a taser several times and it is not that bad. all it does is send an electrical current between the two wires which stimulates the central nervous system and causes muscle groups to become ineffective. and it's alot better that getting pepper sprayed or hit with a steel baton which are several alternatives to tasers.

First of all, being tased, is a "non-lethal" action to take control of a resisting subject, and yes, they can be shot, then there is a hole to fix and the chance the person might die, and yes, there are batons (various kinds) that can be used, but then they get bashed and still have to go seek medical assistance (sometimes), and my all time favorite and I still utilize every chance I get, is my 4 legged land shark, but then there is the chance of multiple bite wounds and or missing meat and then there we go again to the hospital, so being tased is better than all the above, unless one of the above has to be utilized to control and or protect the officer or the public from any dangerous action from a suspect. So, using a "non-lethal" method, is still the best..................and if someone got tased, then they probably deserved it,,,,,,,but remember, its "non-lethal_......

If most people did not act like animals and our culture was not shot, the police would not need tasers.

Beats a head beating with a baton or a bullet. Seems like if you avoid touchy situations and do as the officer tells you, your options become less painful. Being able to call the bail bondsman beats the heck outta your loved ones hearing from the coroner.

Well, when people act like animals, they probably
should be treated like animals. I think police should
absolutely be allowed to carry and use tasers. Why
can't people behave anyway? I dont understand why
people want to do evil things ! !
