Ahhh, but if you check the historical records, Bush didn't make a connection between Iraq and 9/11. He has people who do stuff like that for him. Rove, Cheney, Rush Limbaugh, etc., etc.. People automatically attribute the statements to Bush. Which of course they should. But later he can say that he never said that.

Personally, I never heard a speech from the President that said "Iraq was directly responsible for the attacks of Sept. 11". Certainly he made speeches where he addressed both issues, making the point that we didn't take the terrorist threat as seriously as we should have pre-Sept. 11 and that he didn't want to make the same mistake again with regard to Saddam Hussein and his regime. He also said that Iraq was known to give aid and comfort to terrorists...I don't think that anyone is particularly surprised by that bit of information but again, he didn't say that Iraq was responsible for the attacks.

To refresh my memory, I went back and re-read the 2003 State of the Union Address,
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2003/01/20030128-19.html
which was the last State of the Union Address prior to the start of the Iraq war and a major speech in which Bush outlined his concerns re: Iraq and Saddam Hussein. Having re-read it, I have to stand by my original position. He doesn't say that Iraq was responsible for the Sept. 11 attacks, just that Hussein was a potential threat.

I just think that some people heard that speech (or similar ones) and connected dots (Iraq/sept. 11) that were never meant to be connected.

Cheney, if anyone paid attention to the news and Bush and Cheney talking on the news, right after 9-11 they started saying that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, and kept connecting the two over and over and over. Slowly and subliminally brainwashing the American people. Then later said "I don't know how American people got the idea Iraq did the 9-11 bombing." Then later Bush said on air that he repeates something often enough so that it will become a truth. What the hell! Can't you sheep pay attention? Bush and Cheney are weapons of mass distraction, clearly.

The Bush administration lied before the war and during the occupation of Iraq. Hell, Cheny is still telling lies about the Iraq 9/11 connection. The neo cons in the Bush administration had planned to invade Iraq before Bush was even elected. It is a central tennent of the neo-cons that they will use American power to spread Democracy and to attack hostile governments. I am surprised that they didn't invade Cuba!

The real reason of GW bush's statements and war against Iraq is that he wants to guarantee Israel security destroying all the countries that endanger Israel, such as Iraq an Iran.

Dick Cheney was a major proponent of lying about an Iraq/al-Qaeda connection.
