When two plates slip past another, it is called a slip-strike boundary. If they push together, it's called a convergent boundary. If they move away from each other, it's called a divergent boundary. What is formed is a fault line. The San Andreas Fault in California is a good example of that.

If they both remain on the surface, they create a fault line.
If one plate dives under the other they create a subduction zone which can form a trench (like the Marianas in the Pacific).
If the both push up against each other, they create a mountain range.

Transform fault is a good answer, but not perfect. Every strike-slip (transform) fault has a component of dip-slip in it. If the dip-slip movement reverse then it is a trans-pressional fault, if it is normal then it is a trans-tensional fault.

I am sorry to say nobody has given correct answer for your question. It is called extensional. There are mainly three types of movements noticed during earthquake. Other two methods are compressional, and transform. To know more on tectonic plate movements and about earthquakes visit my sites.

It depends if I can catch them in time. When I can't, they both fall on the floor and it forms a mess of broken plates.
