I am only a few weeks from my due date and I was wondering what needs to be washed before baby comes home? I already washed most of the newborn outfits, but do I need to wash the sheets, quilt, bumper pad, bed skirt (all the items that came with the bedding), towels, and anything that is going to touch baby? And should I wash it all now before he gets here?

Yes!! Everything that goes near the baby should be washed. You never know who may have come in contact with those items you got. Just to be on the safe side wash everything. Better safe than sorry.

You definitely need to wash anything that will be touching the baby directly. So wash all the bedding but you can skip the bedskirt - I'd also skip the bumpers as they really don't wash well (they never look the same) - the baby won't really be touching them anyways for a while. You can wash them anytime really starting now.

ANY new clothing, bedding, or towels need to be washed before your baby or any member of your family uses it. Firstly there is dye that could come off. Secondly many things are treated with chemicals to prevent wrinkling in the store. These chemicals are not good for anyone's skin.

Wash it all at about week 35 then it won't have a chance to accumulate dust before baby arrives to use it.. Place all the washed baby clothes and blankets in plastic storage bags to keep them fresh until baby arives.... makie the crib up and place an inexpensive plastic drop cloth over it to keep it dust free. (secure with a bit of tape) When bby comes home remove the plastic and you are set to go... You can probably forgo washing the bedskirt as baby won't come in contact with it...
Be sure to us an infant detergent as regular detergents can irritate babys delicate skin.. Avoid fabric softeners for the same reason.. To make babies room smell fresh get a odor neutralizing stickup and affix under crib and another under changing table..

I washed all of my sons newborn to 3 month clothes, all of his blankets, towels, and washcloths in Dreft ~ I also did not use any dryer sheets, as they contain Formaldehyde. I began to use the Dreft with all of our clothes, etc as well about 3-4 weeks before I had him to make sure (almost) everything he would come in contact with would be safe........and smell the same, since their little smell senses are so strong. Good luck with the baby! You are in for a wild ride:)

I always did, because the new stuff seems stiff and washing it will soften it up a lot. The stuff that ppl gave me that was used, of course it had to be washed, too. What really helped me was not just getting newborn stuff ready, but having one of my dresser drawers full of 3 to 6 month clothes, too. Babies grow so quickly those first few months, that my first child ended up outgrowing brand new stuff before she had a chance to wear them. Always keep a little ahead of the game!

Wash everything including all of your clothes and towels to prevent the baby's senative skin from breaking out. I use ALL Free clear with alergen fighter. My doc recommended it after my daughter reacted to everything including dreft.

yes every thing that is going to touch the baby's skin that can be machine washed should be washed, baby's skin is very sensitive and could cause a rash if not washed
