Why is cloning extinct animals considered to be "immoral" by many religions?

Most likely because those religions believe that God's plan has caused the animal to go extinct, and it is not the place of man to bring new species into the world, as that was a feat performed by God during Genesis.
However, these people also fail to reallize that human beings cause plenty of extinction, so if we are able to destroy through God's plan, why not revive? Technically, anything we do must fall into God's plan since it already happened- God's will can't be thwarted, right? Also, I believe that God gave man dominion over the animals as an awesome creation present, at least according to Christian dogma, and we all know God abides by the no take backs rule. So yes, we can do whatever we want with animals. In fact, I vote we genetically engineer an octopus-walrus hybrid we could call the walroctopus. it would be the scourge of the deep.

Just to set the record straight for those who say extinct animals can't be cloned, this may be true with current technology, but research is being done right now in Japan trying to clone a mammoth. The surrogate mother would be an elephant.

As for religions thinking it "immoral", they likely think many things I do are immoral too.

I don't think that cloning animals is considered immoral by any religion. I think that any objection to cloning they may have is related to the idea that once animals are cloned, it is a short step to cloning humans, which is their actual objection.

In any case, an extinct animal is one that no longer has any living descendants, so they cannot be cloned, as there is no material left that can be used for that, or any other, purpose.

I'm guessing cause clones aren't created by God and God destroyed them in the first place and doesn't want them back. Something silly like that.

you cannot clone an "extinct" animal if it is already extinct, you can only clone an endangered animal.
