i took castor oil with 3 out of my 4 pregnancies, and had brilliant fast labours, the 4th pregnancy i didnt take it and had a difficult birth(nearly needed a caesarrean) you may need a little bit more try mixing it with orange juice in a glass,i sipped little bits throughout the day,my sister in law put 3 tblsp in a glass topped up with orange juice and put it in the microwave, she said she was able to drink it better, people say dont drink it,but then say run up and down the stairs,or on the spot, erm hang on a minute thats just about as bad as castor oil,all castor oil does is loosen your bowels, like a hot curry does, the oil helps the baby to slide down, GOOD LUCK!

Castor oil is mostly an old wives tale. It can work when your body/cervix is ready. (Typically it is not ready at 37 weeks.) I took Castor oil with my second pregnancy when I went overdue( 41 weeks and 4 days). (I was delivering in a birthing center with a midwife and had no signs of stress.) My cervix had effaced, but I was not dialating. I mixed a 2oz. bottle of castor oil with icecream and made a "milk shake" I didnt go into labor that day-- just into the bathroom a lot. It did produce a lot of contractions that just faded away by the end of the day. Two days later I went into labor, by the time I got to the birthing center I was 7 cm and an hour later I was pushing and not much longer had a healthy 8lb4oz baby boy. The contractions that I had that week helped dialate me which made the whole labor thing easier. You really should have talked to your ob/gyn or midwife BEFORE taking the castor oil. It can cause problems to your cervix if it is not ripe, making actual labor and dialation/effacement last longer. Remember, your not going to be pregnant forever, it is much better to let your body go into labor natrually than by artificial means. (Although this is not possible for everyone and some women need a little boost) There are other ways to help get labor started.-- Try nipple stimulation- it produces stronger contractions if done on a consistent basis and done properly. Its your bodys own form of pitocin. You can use a natrual oil to help lubricate the stimulation, you can do some research about it online. (there are certain ways it has to be done to be considered effective.) Good Luck!

Never try and induce labor. Although castor oil won't have any ill effects other than diarhea, it is basically that which would most likely cause you to go into labor more than the oil itself. Trust me, those old wives tale labor inductions never work. And if the diarhea puts you in labor you could end up not only a mess, but dehydrated. Let nature take its course, it knows what it is doing. Babies come when they come because they are 'ready' to come. My boys were both two weeks late. And they are healthy young men now. Its just uncomfortable for you, I know. But, get over it, it will happen on its own and not before. The hospital tried inducing my boys and they still hung in there way longer than expected.

your very lucky then as most who take it get terrible cramps, bad diarrhea
you cant rush a baby hun it will come when ready

ops forgot to add Because castor oil is unpalatable alone, it is mixed with orange juice, grape juice, or tea. Some recipes encourage large volumes of juice to dull the flavor of the oil. Other recipes use only equal amounts of oil and juice so the mother has less to drink.

Some experts recommend using an enema, which they feel will give the similar results with less discomfort.

i took caster oil with my third pregnancy and i took it in the evening and like you didnt do anything and then went to bed (had a few contractions but nothing big), got up went to dr app (regular schedualed app) and was having contractions every 5 minutes by this time but they werent hurting. the dr was gonna send me home but i told them no cuz i was contracting every 5 minutes, they ran some stress tests on the baby and the baby wasnt moving so they did an ultrasound and decided to break my water. when they broke my water, the baby had gone to the bathroom inside me (i dont know if that had something to do with takin caster oil or not).

I took castor oil when I was 2 days overdue. Nothing happened. I didn't have my baby until I was 10 days over. Baby will come when it's ready.
Don't take any more though, after I took it I read that it can be bad for the baby.

Hope your baby shows up soon, Good luck.

I've never been pregnant, but as with all laxatives (and trust me, with all my digestive problems, I know), they sometimes take time. Just be patient and definitely don't stress! However, if there's still no activity, call your doctor and ask what you should do.

(And the same as other people are saying, I'm sure s/he will tell you: Just give it time and let everything happen naturally.) :3

whats wrong is the baby is not ready I'm sorry as I try not to be rude on here but that is not an appropriate way to induce yourself if you complain enough the doctor may start petocin or something ''medically recomended'' for inductment of labor good luck hope you have a happy healthy baby!!

hi,

I did this too with my first pregnancy when I was about 5 days overdue.

Took half a bottle - it was disgusting - mixed with juice it looked like frog spawn and tasted foul!

It didn't bring my labour on - but made me a bit windy.

In the end I was induced - so don't bother it doesn't work!!
