though in japan it means pervert, it just came to mean cartoon porn here in the states

hentai in japanese literally translates to transformation OR strangeness/abnormality.

however, it can also be used as vulgar slang to mean perverted.

when you hear the word hentai here though, it is most commonly referring to anime porn
