I feel that i would have to sell my soul to be left wing or right wing. I am more to left-centre. However a lot of people on the right say that lefties are really communists. Also I wouldn't like to be right wing. Even though I agree with a capitalist mixed economy. I do not agree with every man for himself. I think people need support. However I don't believe in commmunism, don't belive that sharing the wealth is ever possible and don't believe that third way politics is possible.

I make a BIG distinction between "lefties" or liberals and the normal democrat. No one agrees with every man for himself. We know people need an hand up every once in a while. We don't believe that EVERYONE constantly needs a hand up.

Further, we believe in personal responsibility. Meaning, every has a chance in this counrty. You made poor choices, and now you must suffer the consequences. We don't mind helping you out - pell grants, subsidized student loans, but you also have to be willing to help yourself and want to get better. For instance, we are very sorry you got pregnant at 16, did not graduate high school, then got pregnant at 19 by another "baby daddy". We feel for you. Now, go to vo-tech or college and do something with your life. Don't tell us you cant. You can get FREE child care in every state in the union. You can get grants and student loans in every state in the union. But, where we have a problem with that person is when they start making excuses on why the cant to it. We just believe government does not always do the best job of providing services - examples social security mess; welfare abuse.

We republicans - again not Neo-Cons, just regular republicans, are similar to you. We are just a little right of center. I can not get fully on board the republican party because of a few issues. But for the most part, I am right of center. We believe if you work hard and get ahead, if you show inititive and start your own business and become rich, you should not be penalized for that inititive.

So, I would say you are a moderate democrat; but, like someone already said: Vote the issue, vote the person, not the party!

The United States is not the only nation currently committing brutalities and injustices, yet Washington is home to a government which claims to be the ultimate moral authority on the globe. While invading and occupying nations which posed no threat to them, slaughtering innocent civilians, and torturing suspected enemies, the United States continues to mouth empty platitudes about spreading freedom and democracy, pompously lecture other nations on human rights, and hypocritically determine which nations are too "evil" to be trusted with nuclear technology.

In his recent book, Overthrow, Stephen Kinzer wrote:

There is no stronger or more persistent strain in the American character than the belief that the United States is a nation uniquely endowed with virtue.....This view is driven by a profound conviction that the American form of government, based on capitalism and individual political choice, is, as President Bush asserted, "right and true for every person in every society."

Time and again the United States has acted on this pathological belief, almost always spreading suffering and misery rather than democracy and freedom.

Indirect intervention by the CIA has brought many ruthless dictators to power because they were friendly to corporate America's interests. Multi-national corporations devastate weaker nations by grossly exploiting labor and resources. The World Bank and IMF enable the ruling elite of the United States to enslave developing nations economically. Nuclear intimidation rounds out the vast array of weapons at the disposal of the power mongers at the helm of the United States.

Consolidating power into the Executive Branch, nullifying several Constitutional Amendments with the Patriot Act, packing the courts with "their people", and conducting pseudo-elections are currently at the forefront of the domestic arsenal of America's ruling elite.

The ideal answer is that you have to weigh the issues, research your choices, and decide who the best choice for office would be based on what they stand for. It really shouldn't be about left or right, dem or reb, lib or con. It should be about the person running and what he/she stands for.

However, the country is being divided by left and right hate. If we were all smart, instead of banding behind a certain party or politician and lashing out at each other, we'd band together and actually read our constitution and quit depending on what 'they' said to guide us. How many of us really know what the constitution says?

Why would you want to stop sitting on the fence? Honestly, it's a good place to be...it means that you listen to all sides of the issues and make up your own mind rather than just mindlessly following party line rhetoric "just because".

Continue sitting on your fence......lean a little when the issue calls for it. Vote on the issue not the party!

Vote on the issues, not for a party.

I suspect you have leaned one side or the other but just barely. I only hope you can stay there. Too far to one side or the other is ugly.
