A woman and a man get into an accident... The man's brain falls out undamaged, but his body is demolished... The woman's nervous system shuts down, but her body is merely injured... They are both dead... Surgeons undergo an operation inserting the mans brain to the woman's body... the operation is successful... who do you think wakes up and why.... This is a philosophical question, so I am looking for an answer with reasoning

The man wakes up, since memory, presonality, etc., is tied to the brain.

He will be quite confused, however!

the man will wake up in the woman's body and be very confused. why? because though the body is the woman's, it doesn't hold any memories of what happened to it. The brain is where all knowledge and memory is stored. if the brain is gone, how does the body remember anything? Without a brain, the body won't even know how to pump blood let alone do anything else. And since the brain lived it's life as the man in the man's body, it will only remember what happened to it while it was the man. There would be no way for the brain to know what happened in the woman's life because it was never there to begin with.

SHE wakes up. In today's society, the gender seems to be determined from the outer, physical form of the person. Men who feel like they are women trapped in men's bodies are still referred to as males. However, when they have a sex change operation, they are then referred to as females. Therefore, the sex of the brain will not matter (even if he is now truly a man trapped in a woman's body!).

Obviously, I am answering this question in terms of who we see wakes up. If I were to answer who wakes up (in terms of which personality is still there), HE would be the one who awakens, because the personality is located in the brain.
