I have to agree that it is too new. The long term effects are not known yet. There was very little testing done on it. These other vaccines that they are giving kids are giving them autism and many other health problems. I would wait a few years to see what the real side effects are. Nothing should be mandatory, at least when it comes to our health.

I am definitely for it. It prevents cervical CANCER from an STD. People should definitely be getting immunized. Why are people against it? They should be trying to stop a preventable disease from infecting people. I don't think it would cause teens to be any more promiscuous than they are already. The people who oppose it are not confident in their ability to teach their children about safe sex. Keeping pre-teens in the dark about sex will only make them more curious and will most likely have sex at a young age. This shot would be an excellent start at educating young people about sex. Telling them exactly what it is for, and what it prevents and doesn't prevent is a good way to start a conversation about it. Teaching abstinence obviously isn't working. With our media and society the way it is now, we should be teaching kids how to be safe in any situation. If that means we have to have uncomfortable conversations with our kids about sex, then so be it. Prevention is a hell of a lot better than treating problems later on.

I say "why not?" It could protect you against something really bad: cervical cancer and/or genital warts! And it's just a few pokes with a needle. I don't think it should be mandatory, but if I were younger I would get it, and if I had a daughter I would want her to get it.

I don't think it's a good idea require girls to get it. By doing this, you are assuming they will become sexually active before marriage. And it's sexist because it's only girls, not boys. If it were both boys and girls, I would say ok. Second, it's not just one shot. Girls have to go back over half a year and get three shots. If someone made me do that, I would die. FYI, I'm 16. I say, just wait till marriage before sleeping with someone. That way you avoid not only STI's like this, but also pregnancy.

Given that cervical cancer has been proven to be transmittable thru sex and given that the highest rates are among sexually active young ladies (specifically active in early teens), and given the new female freedom to be more promiscuous than even men formerly were, it only stands to reason that the only course of action to take is to make innoculation mandatory.

I think since we vaccinate kids for other things then why not for HPV? Alot of women get it.... even ones who have only had one sex partner so I don't feel it will cause promiscuity. It's worth it when you look at all the women who have HPV that caused cancer. When my daughter gets older she will be getting it, thats for sure.
* In Texas they are making it mandatory to make insurance companies cover the costs. You can always file a form to protest against it and exempt your child.

i think it should be a teen girls or any girl for that matter own choice to get the shots for it. many states are requiring it for girls to start middle school and even elementary i dont personally think thats right. it should be my choice to have that. its very expensive and many families cant afford the vaccines but many schools require it and i cant beleive this is another personal problem that the government is getting involved in cant they just once butt out ??

I think it's a safe thing to do. Why would you not want to prevent a type of cancer?

it is to new. I don't trust it and I do not trust the fda. Our rights should not be taken away from us and made to take the shot. This is a free country or is suppose to be.
