E.R., The Gilmore Girls, and The Office have been on hiatus for the past couple of weeks. I know GG comes back April 10th and E.R. comes back April 12th.

I got my American gf to help me on this one. Most of these drama shows have 22 episodes & the tv schedulers have to "fit" these in around the calendar year. They have the 1st episode in the autumn, have a break til New Year & then start up again. There's another break around end of February & another one in May.These breaks are known as "sweeps".Basically it's a way to ensure these shows start & finish at a set time.

We are sort of on hiatus with a lot of our shows right now, there are a lot of re-runs on TV right now. It seems that the only thing that is going on is American Idol and I may kill myself. Personally I'm a far of British TV and would much rather sit down to a good hour of Wire in the Blood.

Yeah, this is common. Usually there will be new episodes of shows in February ("sweeps" period) and then they'll take a break for a few weeks and come back in April in time to finish up the season for May "sweeps."

ER has been on break lately last few weeks at least, GG is in reruns i believe, Office was on break as well (the Office is said to be experimenting with a new format for reruns in which two half hour episodes are merged to form one hour eps. and deleted scenes are re-cut into the show.
