from a pool owner in georgia...AFTER the pollen is done covering everything. It's not the pollen that's the problem, it's the little spring blooms that blow off the tree during high pollen season. May 31st to September 1st is the official pool season for the south, but i usually go end of may to November because i hate the look of that cover. Your frost is probably a little sooner so you might want to go October. And get the name of a good pool maintenance guy. You know, just in case...

How exciting! You will probably want to start up as soon as you can tolerate the weather (i.e., temperature.) You will need to test your experience with the filter and pumping equipment and be sure of your water quality. (After removing the cover check for creepy crawlies, etc.) .... Many people drain their pools in the fall
and scrub them on a cloudy day in the spring so that the soap will not dry on as it does on a sunny day. Check for recommended cleaners and rinse thoroughly. .. It's worth the family time to work together anticipating the fun.. .. Then ENJOY.

If you dont want to use a big heater, it might be best to wait till you can go outside to sun bathe, possibly the mid or end of May
