I am a home Improvemt contractor. I do good work But always over sell myself and give low prices. I work hard but in the end it takes more time and the customers see I am more a slave to them then a pro. I have been in 25 jobs it all starts well but I am very friendly and lose the Pro relationship. Then the cost starts to step all over Me. I know I am to blame but I am very kind and good guy . How do I stop this.

Guilt maybe? Low self esteem? Maybe at some level you think you deserve to be take advantage of? Too hard to tell. You are probably a nice person, but that isn't the reason. You are letting them do it for some reason. It is possible to be nice and firm at the same time.

I think I understand your problem. It sounds like you may have insecurity problems. Maybe you don't think you're worth the price you know you should be asking. Do you feel you need to be liked. so you end up revealing your weakness to wolves and they pounce.

I think the quickest solution is to have your wife or someone you trust be some what of a mediator. Or you need to be too busy for leisure conversation..

I'm sure you are a kind person but you may need to be honest with yourself. When you are left holding a bag. A bag you know you have no business holding. You know it feels like you've been robbed, even by yourself because you set there and let them. Fear of confrontation maybe. You are worthy of your pay bro.Let someone work that front office and let your word be your word you'll get in to the grove after awhile. Either that or bitterness of cheating yourself will shut down the place...lol. Just trying to push you .Good luck!

You already have the answer, you just have to stick to the solution. You see that you have a hard time maintaining a professional relationship, work on that. Charge what you are worth and don't let yourself get taken advantage of. If you don't have the gumption to do that, take a class on how to be assertive. These are your clients, not your friends. You don't pay people to be your friends do you? Neither do your clients, they come to you for a job to be done. You have to remember that this is your job and not a social function. Your reputation is on the line, if you are a pushover for them they are going to tell there friends and on goes the cycle. Take charge now!!!

C.T. bear in mind that "business is business"
You could be good, nice, friendly, etc. etc. but... but! you have to learn to get down to business.
Do your homework before given a quote and make sure you count for the odds as well in your final price.
I wish you all the best

Take more time with the contract, more detail of what is required of you,and add a"time and material"clause for anything not specifically agreed to.

you are too nice.
i know that sounds impossible,
but you let people take advantage of you.
you have to get some backbone
or this will happen for the rest of your life!
