Global warming is now a proven fact. It cannot be stopped, but it can be slowed down. If global warming wins there will not be an America left to go bankrupt. What air is polluted now cannot be fixed, but what is left to the future can be if enough of people want to change it and are willing to be able to find things to replace what we use today, gas, energy, etc. Spending money to find ways in which to do this makes more sense than funding a never ending war that only gets worse with time.

We know that people are a part of the problem.
We also know that the earth has it's own unique natural cycles that we can do nothing about.
What we DO NOT know is how the two really react together.
We can combat the human element, this will not bankrupt America.
In fact the best places to begin this combat are in large developing nations such as China and India.
All manufacturing and power facilities built in any new country really should be as green as possible.
This is primarily focused on the HUGE MONEY people not the mom and pop shops, the big money can afford it...
Also we are heading in the correct direction. YAhoo news had an article a couple weeks ago on a slor hydrogen house.
The emmissions between the house and the car were zero.
Out of reach cost wise for the average american at his time but not out of reach for the big money. Soon will in reach of the average joe.
so it is not all doom and gloom
an remember some of what we are seeing is nature doing its thing...

Yes, saving the planet is more important than any single country's economy ( and I'm a conservative that loves the US ) but I really think that those who think that doing what we can to save ( or perhaps just improve ) the planet will mean the demise of the American power, are seriously underestimating the great capacity of the American people and the American economy to deal with the challenges presented by becoming more "green".
I think that what Conservatives need to do is see the opportunities, not just the obstacles and find a middle ground that gives everyone a piece of the pie.
How about this to start, conservatives agree than global warming is happening, and liberals agree that nuclear plants are the best solution to provide the American people with clean "green" energy?
and I know what some will say, well but what about China?... Let China live under a black cloud, they will give us a call when they're about 50 years behind in green technology. ( and they will pay whatever we ask them for it! )

Climatology is not an exact science. The international panel on climate change is, for that very reason, very conservative in its estimations and recommendations. It uses 1500 scientists to analyze years worth of data and only puts out a report every four years. This latest report the increased their estimation of the liklihood that global warming is happening and is caused by humans from 60% to 90%. And that says a lot.
There have been periods in the earth's history where the temperature has fluctuated as much as 20° C in a decade. But for the time that humans have been on the earth, the temperature has been relatively cool and very stable. This is a good thing because human societies, sustained primarily through agriculture, couldn't survive under vast fluctuations in the earth's temperature.
The worry is that we are exiting this nice stable period of the earth's climate which has allowed humans to successfully inhabit the earth. We are not 100% certain that this is happening, nor are we certain that we can stop it. But the chance of catastrophe and the possibility that we might be able to avoid it justifies us spending good money today for the possibility of improving our lives 100 years from now.
Interesting, the economic modeling of our future wealth is about as certain as our modeling of the future climate. These models will recommend various portions of our GDP be spent to mitigate global warming depending on how much we value the well being of our children compared to ourselves. Or how much we value the well being of the poor compared to the well being of the wealthy.
The issue of global warming is wrought with uncertainties, but on balance, I think efforts to limit our CO2 emissions through a carbon tax will be a prudent use of resources.

First some facts.
1. There is no AGW. While the earth is warming it is related to solar activity about which we have no control.
2. CO2 follows warming periods and does not lead them therefore anthropods and their production of greenhouse gases have nothing to do with the environment warming.
Now for the crux of the issue. GW was created to support a politicians belief in nuclear power generation, period. In a rush to support that position and receive massive government dollars an industry was launched. Since that time the issue was stolen by anti-capitalists/socialists who seek the destruction of capital and voila here we are today. It amazes me that the media that the media have such a socialist leaning that they would bankrupt America to accomplish their goal.
Oh and by the way, if we follow the lunatics concepts on to fix human global warming not only will it bankrupt America it will destroy several developing nations and send them into unbelievable hardships.

Global Warming is a myth, the IPCC was a scam as the scientists on the original panel have said. It is the media that is harping on it and it is quite sad as to the lengths they have gone to indoctrinate people. The real scientists that actually study the weather and not hamsters or worms say that it is all crap. One interesting note is there has been global warming on Mars for 3 straight years according to Nasa. Lots of SUV's and carbon dioxide on Mars eh? What does this tell us - that perhaps we are all once again running around yelling the sky is falling. Say - solar radiation and think a little will you. The poster is correct - had we been stupid enouigh to sign the Kyoto Treaty, we would have suffered.

For years engineers have tried to invent the perpetual motion machine. But it was politicians who did it! Global Warming is that machine. I got really scared about it when I moved to Alaska and saw how the glaciers were retreating. So I started doing some research. Virtually every "evidence" of GW is non-scientific based on mismatched measuring techniques or anecdotal logic. In other words, no real evidence. As for the glaciers, I discovered that Geologists (real scientists) determined that they have been retreating since the last ice age! Not since the Industrial Revolution. Here's a theory. since most countries have stopped whaling, whale populations have rebounded. whales are huge mammals that breath in vast quantities of O2 and exchange it for CO2 (a greenhouse gas) what's worse baleen whales eat vast quantities of plankton which exchange CO2 for O2 - oh no. Stop the Whales!

We were all doomed to be covered with ice during the Global Cooling of the 70's.
Then we were all going to die of skin cancer during the 80's.
Now we are all going drown because the the ice is melting.
Would someone make up their mind!!!
How many times are these little boys going to cry wolf before reasonable, rational, thinking human beings start to ignore them.
I didn't freeze and I haven't died of skin cancer. This is one more attempt to reduce the US to a 17th world nation. That's right, we are supposed to blow through the 3rd world so fast we won't even be seen.
Listen to real scientists. People that understand climate and people who invent the Internet are not of the same.
