Can you help me make up a letter to the editor and include 4 of the fallacies in the letter. The fallacies are Ad hominem, Appeal to the Crowd, Straw Man, Red Herring, Complex Question and Slippery Sope. Then make each paragraph contain one fallacy. Next to the paragraph say what the fallacy is.
Thank you

Those are doctrines, not fallacies. While they may not be applicable in all situations, each of them is often valid.

The Slippery Slope argument says that once you cross a line and allow something, it can easily lead to allowing other things, until eventually there is no more line. Example: Constitution forbids warrantless wiretaps. Proposed Exception: It's OK to wiretap foreign terrorists. Slippery Slope: What about domestic terrorists? Domestic murderers? Domestic bank robbers? Domestic muggers? Once you go past the bright line, where do you stop next.

Ad Homimen -- meaning against the person. Attacking the speaker rather than debating the merits of the message. You can see constant examples in the Politics forum here.

Red Herring -- meaning to distract with an irrelevant issue. Still a very effective way of avoiding talking about a topic. Again, see the Politics forum for frequent examples.

Straw Man -- you can do something if a third-person is involved, but you can't do it with just two people. Example: some laws prohibit the sale of land between spouses. But a spouse can sell it to a third person, who sells it to the other spouse. In most cases, there is no valid legal reason to require a Straw Man.

And so on. Each of these is a legal doctrine or a political tactic that has some valid uses, but often gets over-used.

Sounds like Homework. My son does his own work, you should do yours.
