Why does everyone also say "the name Hermione from Harry Potter"? J.K. Rowling did not make that name, but only used it in her books. Everyone so far I have seen keep saying "like Hermione from Harry Potter". Just wondering. =P

Actually, if anyone watched Phil Of The Future on Disney Channel, they use it on that. That is the teacher's name. Hermione.

I can understand that my son's name is Xzavier and people are always asking me if i got it from X-men. No i didn't it is a real name (meaning bright or a new house depending on what language) plus the spelling is diefferent. I guess people seem to think that because something is popular in a certin time and you use a name from that that you got the name from the book/movie/comic. Go figure!

Even though the name has been around for a long long time, it has been popularised by the author.
It's just that most people aren't aware that the name existed before the book, and the only source they know it from is the Harry Potter series.

Hermione Granger is the most common reference for the name, is all. It's not a common name at all, and the fact that it is used in such a widely popular book makes it memorable.

It's such an unusual name that most people don't know of another Hermione, so they assocate it with Harry potter.

Um.. you kind of answered your own question there babe. JK Rowling just made it really popular, and people immediately think of her books when they hear the name because it's not very common.
