For my paper I am going to write about the following:

Intro: Basic dentistry
-History
-Important Dates

Thesis: ???

Body 1: Development of teeth
-Ages teeth come in at
-# of teeth
-losing teeth
-keeping baby teeth clean

Body 2: Children's Procedures
-Stainless Steel Crowns
-pulpectomy
-pulpotomy
-any other ones I find

Body 3: Nutrition
-Healthy Eating
-Why it's so important for dental hygene

Conclusion: summary of everything written

I have to have this be a minimum of 5 pages. With all of this I think I can get that.
I just don't know what my thesis should be. The general topic of the paper is 'Kids and Dentistry'. A thesis is generally a statement and then facts to prove it. That's what my english teacher pretty much taught us. But then the teacher for the class that this is for said that it's a question that you research and then come to a conclusion with your research...but that sounds more like a hypothesis. So if you could also explain a 'thesis' that would be helpful. thx

P.S. The rough draft is due on Friday. So there can be some parts not done all the way or not as thorough as what the final will have, but I deffinetly need something to turn it. I greatly appreciate this!!!

what level thesis is it? if it Masters level do you have any original work to put into it?? this should be the bulk. generally all background information should only make up 20%, let's say 3 pages, then a lot of discussion about the issues making up the bulk, then you conclusion should be about 2 pages. how many pages are you doing? my thesis was 18,000 words, not going to fit into 5 pages so i'm thinking you are writing more of a report. i would structure it with an index listing all the issues you are going to talk about just as you have done here, and their page numbers, and keep everything under headings. it isn't really an argumentative piece by the looks of it, so it looks fairly straight forward if you have all the information. my best piece of advice has always been - tell the reader exactly where you are heading with the piece in the intro, don't let your logic (which is logical to you) speak for itself.

An information essay can be written about anything. Go for something you are interested in. You should be able to find plenty of information on any topic. All you really have to do is use a search engine. If you type in something you usually get something, and even if it's not exactly what you're looking for it may take you in a different direction and give you a topic you like better.

I'd start off with something simple that makes a big statement..........

Teeth. Just another body part right? WRONG!!!! (then go on to say even before they make an appearance in our mouth our bodies prepare for their arrival so nutrition is important from day one in order for our teeth to have the best chance to serve us well throughout life. Mention the role teeth have...from the informative to the fun.......allow us to chew our food to aid digestion.......to giving that all important winning smile)
hope this helps

Thesis:
The best way children take care of their teeth is by regularly visiting the dentist. (Yeah, I know it should be a tad bit more thorough.)

Ok, I want to describe what I learned was a thesis.
It's a basic sentence before your plan of attack, that describes your main argument of the essay. It should be limited to one subject, and one verb. The verb should be strong (not a linking verb).

bad theis: Dogs like to eat books.
good thesis: The excellent tastes of books, causes dogs to eat them. (Then prove how/ why books taste good and how they appeal to a dog.)
