Google makes all its money from people following the links through their search engine. Companies bid for the top positions of certain high volume searches, the bid being how much they are willing to pay per person who follows their link. The highest bidder gets the top link, and so on. Google makes money on every click.

Yahoo makes a lot of their money on advertising and they also sell top search slots. They also have numerous downloadable computer games & services they offer for a fee.

Google is a far more profitable operation than Yahoo, as it is the most used search engine available.

Well besides the obvious advertising.. they make money from web hosting, up grading email and game accounts. Charging websites to have a better spot on thier search engines.... things like that add up pretty fast.

advertising, web hosting, say you want to buy a domain for a business, etc. Google is also loaded with viruses so be careful. yahoo does not have the traffic google does so there are not as many virus threats.
