Simple answer YES. Happens all the time. Bill Clinton mass fired all the appointed lawyers and appointed only Liberal Democrats when he was in office(except one). The Justice department/Applet Court are like the Minor leagues, if the US Supreme Court is the Majors. When your in office you get as many of your guys off the bench as you can to prepare them for the Majors.

Also if you think this is something new think again...FDR stacked the Supreme Court.

Stack what deck?

You mean doing what every President (including, rightfully, Former President Clinton, who had to defend the same action from a different group of ill-educated citizens) has always done?

Do some research. You make it sound like this is the first time a President has been allowed to choose his own prosecuting attorneys who have ALWAYS been appointed by the President.

This is a power grab by the President's opponents. It will backfire if there is a Democrat in the Presidency next time (which I hope assuming they aren't someone as seditious as some of the more public members of my party).

Not only is this possible, it's accepted fact and happens with virtually every single President that has ever held office.

It was decided long ago that the appointees of an administration are employed at the sufferance of said administration, and are beholden to none but the administration (and thusly, indirectly, to the American people).

Bush is venting the ire on the courts for his debacle in the Iraq war. It is just sad to note that the first to go were Republican judges.
