Why do we now have 2 lanuages on everything and everywhere?

You Know this world is changing. We see it everyday. I want to know why we have things in english and then spanish. When other nationalities came to the US we did not cater to them. I dont every recall seeing signs in German, French, Polish or any other language. So why now?

Because the spanish speaking have overtaken the country. No, no other immigrants every got their own language on every sign, form, application and traffic sign. No other immigrants had their language taught in the school or had their language taught in the schools. It's ridiculous and costs millions. I think when you go to another country you should try to fit in and learn THEIR language and customs and not expect them to cater to you.

This could easily degenerate into a flame war where basically people that speak spanish would feel great with the competitive edge that it gives them, and people who don't, to feel insecure with the rising power of latinos in the US, that's what's the real issue is about, and the language is just a consequence of that.

Immigrants of the past like the Polish, Ukraine and others did not share a common language, so when they immigrated to the US they all had to agree on a common language which is the native country's own, English. However with Latinos, you have large numbers of Mexicans, with the Cubans in Miami and Puerto Ricans in NYC just to name a few and we all share the same language so there's a natural tendency to speak it, we feel kind of fake speaking a foreign language when we can use our own among ourselves.

The proximity
Ever wonder why there's more latinos than people from elsewhere in the US. Well take your world map and head south and you'll see that it's all lined up with Spanish speaking
people, except for Brasil.

The fact
I didn't choose to learn English, but it made sense to do so in a globalized world, I either adapted to it or let others get the advantage. So the fact is that if there's a tendency there's little to do about fighting it.

In the coming years we might have to adapt to Mandarin (yes, the official or common language in China) as Chine rises as a world power. We must understand that nobody bends over when they hold economic or military power, and nobody is going to embrace someone else's culture under such conditions, when they have a choice to impose their own, after all it's because of the US, and not the UK or Australia that English is ther world's language.

I happen to be a Canadian (born and raised) and in Canada as well as most other countries in the world (but I guess you never left the US to know that) two or more languages co-exist with few problems. If you would visit Europe you would see at least 4 languages at every airport and public location. I have lived in countries were French or Spanish and have encountered Americans that have lived there for years and could not communicate with the locals. Before you start criticizing immigrants (who are just simply expanding their profits). Know the facts. Plus, if you knew some US history you would discover some interesting facts about who owned many of those southern states.
