I can bellydance, and I'm not just being modest or anything, I have been told I can yet I have never had a boyfriend. It's preference. Belly dancing is the "in" thing at the moment seeing as how Shakira never existed before recently, and the clear addiction of Hookah has just been discovered. Catch the sarcasm?

I agree with the other responses. Its just an art form and not a way of getting guys.

Guys like just about any dancer, or any girl for that matter. I would say that the reason you can't get a guy is because young guys are too shy.

Guys are idiots, I was always too scared to ask a girl out in school because I was concerned about the way I looked - By the end of high school (I'm pretty young, c/o 04) I was crowned Prom King, Homecoming King, and later won a 'Mr Beautiful' Competition.

Basically what this breaks down to is: Usually guys no matter how good looking they might be are just plain scurred :)

You're not doing anything wrong, just keep being you and before you know it, the guy of your dreams will come out of nowhere and sweep you up

I'm a guy and yes I like belly dancers. But I wouldn't want a wife or girlfriend for that matter that is on display as a sexual object. When I was young I dated a couple of strippers but nothing steady and not for long. And no I'm not equating the art of belly dancing with strippers just drawing on a broad analogy.

A lot of guys like belly dancers in public, but sometimes that can cause friction in a relationship. It's a male jealousy thing, although there are plenty of guys who don't feel threatened. So, if you're a belly dancer, that may not make things easier, but it doesn't make them impossible.

I certainly hope it's not a requirement! Just like you, I don't know how. And just like you, I'm hoping to meet a guy who would not expect me to belly-dance.

My thoughts:
Belly-dancing is a beautiful, exotic dance. There are some cultures that have elevated it to a major art form. Unfortunately, in some societies it has been equated as the dance of choice of entertainment women (what you would call strippers). And therefore, has been lowly regarded. I don't think that's fair because there are actually women out there that take up belly-dancing for the pure love of it.

We all know very well that only bellydancers get dates. Or the other way around - bellydancers never have dates or boyfriends. C'mon, you know that neither is true :-) Bellydancing is art. A guy might or migh not like it, it is up to every particular person.
