gst definitely, the gst is the turbocharged version and a much more reliable model, if you can though spring for the gsx, it is turbocharged and awd as well....very fast! plus the new body style looks like crap, the gst body style has a lot more aftermarket support as well, you dont even have to do much to make them look good, throw on some coilovers, gunmetal rims and tint it and it looks great, the 4g motor and 16g turbo setup isnt that pricey either

The eclipse GT is sporty due mainly to a torquey 263-hp, 260-lb-ft 3.8-liter V6. in the GT Unfortunately, for spirited driving the car is too heavy and the suspension can’t control all that torque. It’s more suited for comfort than tight handling, and the Eclipse is at its best while cruising.
The GST had problems with crank walk and failing turbos with a for cylinder engine. The GT is a naturally aspirated V-6 engine which mean better reliability.
Had bottom end rebuilt once at 80,000 miles and on second turbo only have 120,000 miles on it now. If you opt for GST get a turbo timer

I like the styling of both the 2g and the 3g. I own a 01 GT. Its a love hate relationship with the car, just like any other mitsu out there. The aftermarket is already strong for the 2g, and it is slowly building for the 3g. I think that the 3g is a more comfortable ride, I have made many long distance trip in the 3g. The 2g that I owned, I wouldnt have done those trips. The GST is definitly faster and has more potential right now than the GT does. Check out club3g.com, the members rides sections might give you some ideas on styling.

If you are going for looks I think a 99 GST definately looks better then the 00 GT. And since you are not going to race it you can look to see if you can find a 99 GS 10th anniversary oz racing edition. They are non-turbo but the engine is more reliable than the turbo GST and GSX and your insurance would be cheaper plus you don't have to pay for premium fuel. And you still get the looks and fully loaded with the turbo spoiler, leather seats, sunroof, and all that. That is if you are looking for a car that you don't plan on racing.

Personally I think the 99 looks better than the 00. And believe me, you'd like the get-up-and-go of the GST, even if you don't race it. I recommend the GST, however, resell value of the GT would be a little more.

the gt gives more top speed than the gst and while looks are cool you don't exactly want to get passed up by a street sweeper lol
