Hurt. This is the most haunting song I have ever heard. He has a video of it; he is beating the same cord on the piano while singing it and video flashes of his life intermittently come up. It is a great song, but I have to say: it is the only video that has ever left me speechless.

I hurt myself today
to see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
the only thing that's real
the needle tears a hole
the old familiar sting
try to kill it all away
but I remember everything
what have I become?
my sweetest friend
everyone I know
goes away in the end
and you could have it all
my empire of dirt

I will let you down
I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of thorns
upon my liar's chair
full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
beneath the stains of time
the feelings disappear
you are someone else
I am still right here

what have I become?
my sweetest friend
everyone I know
goes away in the end
and you could have it all
my empire of dirt

I will let you down
I will make you hurt

if I could start again
a million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

Folsom Prison Blues is by far my favorite, but I also like One Peice at a Time, and A Boy Named Sue.

He is, in my opinion, one of the most incredible male vocalists ever to record. Folsom Prison really shows it off.

The other two because they're fun, and music is about having fun.

I know it's not HIS song but I like his rendition of "Hurt". Such a way of putting his own twist on things, even in the face of his own mortality. He was a true entertainer. One of my favorite episodes of Little House on the Prarie(I'm showing my age now) was the one that he and June were on. Soo good together, what an AMAZING love story.

"Sunday Morning Coming Down" because the imagery in it is amazing. It was written by the great Kris Kristofferson based on his real life experiences.

A Boy Named Sue.

I understand it was written for one of his friends with a name "Marion".

Marion's life was similar to the words of the song.

Marion didn't want his name used ...so they used Sue.
