More than anything else, the salvation of American Democracy.

Yes, the New Deal didn't end the Great Depression but it did begin the turnaround that World War 2 would eventually finish up. In doing that, the New Deal renewed the average American's faith that the country would not only survive but would thrive again. One must remember what was happening to democracies all around the world at the time.
