I lived in Doha, Qatar for five years and my advice would be to read up on the little country as much as possible. And a little advanced knowledge on Islam would help to. When I lived there it was chaotic but not in any dangerous way. Something is happening all the time, much like in any other city in the world. Not very many people know where it is situated, however, a lot has changed since I was there. The older buildings have been replaced with bigger modern buildings-resembling other modern styled Middle Eastern countries like Saudi
Arabia. But in many ways is very different to Saudi Arabia. If you know people there already than that will help you adjust to the country a lot quicker. You will also see many pictures of the Emir is the local shops-when I was there it was a picture of the older Emir and his son-now it is just the son...his father was exiled...peacefully. My advise would be to read as much of the city as possible and be prepared for anything-nothing dangerous I assure you!

Accept the fact that you are a second class citizen, no one will want your opinion because it won't count for anything (to the men) or you will be considered a "trouble maker" by the women. Islam considers women to be one of man's possessions. The best way to get what you want is to get it through YOUR man, but other than that, keep your head down and your birka closed. Good luck!

Women have no rights, men have all the power. I think you'd be better off moving to New Jersey.
