I have to build a model of a building. My teacher said that mad board would be a good material to use. I can't find it anywhere on the internet for sale. Or is there anything better?

I would start, as others have mentioned, at either Michael's, Hobby Lobby or even Wal-mart now. But, I would also go to professional frame shops and ask if they have any "scrap matboard" they are willing to part with at a discount price. In the picture framing business, the store buys matboard at the wholesaler price, say $4.50 a sheet and then marks it up to $8.00 per sheet, depending on what the stores markup is. When a customer comes in and has a print, photo or such framed up, the customer has to buy the entire sheet, even if they only use a small portion of the matboard. (Matboard sheets sizes are 32x40) The left over "scrap matboard" is then put aside or even thrown away at times. I have also seen the matboard cut down to standard sizes; 8x10, 9x12, 11x14, 12x16, 14x18, 16x20 and so on depending upon the size of the left over mat scraps. Once these are all cut down, then they place "sale" prices on them and then "resale" the matboard at additional profit, even when they have gotten full price for the matboard already from the initial customer. That is why if you go to a framing store, ask them if they have scrap matboard in stock and are they willing to sell it in "bulk discount".
If you are desiring the need for full sheets of matboard, ask them if they do "bulk discount" pricing. A full box of matboard sheets are 25 per box. You can always "mix and match" your colors to get to the total of a full box.
Also, make sure if you do buy in bulk, you purchase the low end paper mats, which are acid free only on the front and back. Rag mats are white core (the middle) and are acid free all the way through and twice as expensive as the paper mats.
Hope this load of information will help you. Good Luck!

Mat board is sold in any large craft store. Look for it where they sell the picture frames. Michael's is a good place to find it. I might also suggest thin foam core board might also work for your project. Look at http://www.dickblick.com for both of these products.
